DPVS COURSE

This course was developed to comply with the requirements of the Marine Personnel Regulations on minimum training in personal survival techniques and firefighting for Canadian seafarers sailing on board passenger vessels engaged on a voyage in Canadian waters. The new DPVS course replaces the old MED A1 and A2 courses.  This course is 23 hours and has practical elements taking place in a pool and with firefighting equipment.

It was developed to comply with the requirements of the Marine Personnel Regulations on minimum training in personal survival techniques and fire fighting for Canadian seafarers sailing solely on board passenger vessels engaged on voyage in domestic waters.

Consisting of 9 theoretical lectures along with practical exercises that can be broken down into these 9 elements:

     1. Introduction

     2. Hazards and emergencies

     3. Firefighting

     4. Emergency response

     5. Lifesaving appliances and abandonment

     6. Survival

     7. Rescue

     8. Maintenance and inspection of emergency equipment
