SSPV – CP COURSE

SSPV CP

This course is vessel-specific.  It is intended for holders of a certificate of competency as Master, Limited, or Chief Mate, Limited, of a passenger vessel of less than 60 gross tonnage. It replaces the old MED A2L.

A person must be at least 15 years of age to take the SSPV-CP course.  A person must hold a training certificate in small seasonal passenger vessel safety (noncertificated personnel) (SSPV-NCP) to take this course.

The aim of this course is to provide officers with knowledge of:

  • current regulations related to fire and boat drills, life saving apparatus and safety equipment,
  • proper stowage, care, maintenance and servicing requirements for safety equipment and appliances on board the vessel,
  • crew management related to safety, training and organization,
  • shipboard administration and appropriate record-keeping,
  • crowd and passenger control,
  • communications during emergencies.
